Ranges in size up to about 9'.  Suitable as a container plant.  Small deciduous tree with large red showy flowers and distinctive five-pointed leaves. Grows well in open sunny situations. Generally flowers just before new leaves, but sometimes flowers when leaves have emerged. Good garden species.

*Pour just boiled water over seed and let soak 24 hrs.  Then sow seed 1/4" deep in well drained media.  Give preventive fungicidal drench.  Germinate 2-3 weeks at 70-75 degrees F.
