Bird's Nest Banksia

 

The flower color is a unique lemon yellow hemispherical head, whereas most banksia flowers appear as cylindrical spikes.  Bloom season is summer and fall and it forms a medium-sized mature shrub to 9'.  The leaves are 10 cm (4") long and have toothed edges.  This is a West Australia species that responds to light pruning onlyThis is a common species in the Fitzgerald River National Park. 

DO NOT FERTILIZE WITH PHOSPHOROUS FERTILIZERS!

*Sow seed 1/8" deep in well drained media.  Give preventive fungicidal drench.  Germinate 3-12 weeks at 64 - 80 degrees F.
